It’s that time of year and after a year in and out of lockdown, we look forward to celebrating with family and friends. Our minds turn to gifting, we’ve collated some thoughtful, bee friendly and more sustainable gifting ideas with our pollinator friends and the future in mind.
1.The Melbourne Pollinator Corridor Handbook is a clear, factual, accessible and easy-to-use introduction to native bees, gardening for native bees and street gardening! This handbook is designed to be used— to be thumbed through time and time again, written in and loved.
2.”Soil” by Matthew Evans review here.
3.”The Bee Friendly Garden” by Doug Purdie
4.The ACT Government released it’s ACT for Bees Urban Planting Calendar, the calendar includes flowering times and which plants different pollinators favour.
5. Museums Victoria tickets, events and Natural World Treasures shop.
6.Buy local honey, or look at starting your own backyard hive. Backyard Honey offers several services for starting out and maintaining your Hive as well as supplying local honey.
7.Make sweet gifts and treats using your local honey.
8.Plants and herbs make wonderful gifts to be enjoyed all year round, just ensure these have not been grown with pesticides. Herbs are great at attracting bees to our gardens, they grow well alongside other plant species and many are suitable for containers. Great for your cooking and great for our pollinators!
